Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum
The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum was established in 1994 with the support of The Barber Companies. What began as a private collection in downtown Birmingham has grown to a 740-acre park that’s home to the 144,000-square-foot museum and a 2.38-mile road course. Developing the Barber Motorsports Park was seen as a way to give Birmingham a new attraction that could not be found in other cities.
The museum is home to more than 1,050 motorcycles – the largest collection of its kind in the world. At any one time, more than 550 motorcycles are on exhibit here. The museum also houses the largest collection of Lotus race cars in the United States along with several other exotic cars. The collection is presented in a five-level building built specifically for this purpose.
With motorcycles and cars maintained in fine running condition and daily public demonstrations of these vehicles, the museum is truly a “living museum.” How exciting would it be to see a rare European race bike in the museum and then a moment later watch this motorcycle being put through its paces on the beautifully landscaped track? This is a regular routine at the park!
The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum is also available for meetings and events. What better place to gather with your business associates or host a special company function?
The Barber Motorsports Park operates year round and is home to the Porsche Driving Experience – North America’s only factory-sponsored driving school – as well as several motorcycle schools and track days.
The park also hosts American Motorcyclist Association Pro Roadracing and the Grand American Rolex Cup Series (sports cars and prototypes).
In October, the museum hosts the Barber Vintage Festival, where vintage motorcycles rule the day from the race track to the exhibit areas, with many rare classics on display. Combine this with a classic parts swap meet and a vintage motorcycle benefit auction for the museum, and you’re sure to find plenty of great reasons to visit Birmingham and the Barber Motorsports Park.
